Crazy Transfer Window & John Stones Hijack Deal

This is the first transfer window since Uefa decided to relax FFP, it also is the another summer where the TV money sky rocketed yet again. These two factors combined have created a crazy transfer window.

One where all Premier League clubs can afford to compete for the worlds best players as well as hold other clubs to ransom over the sale of their star players. Add to the mix the FA’s plea to get more English players in each side the value of English players intensify’s. Having said that the most ridicules transfer story was the one linking Neymar to Man Utd.

So now we know the going rate in the current transfer market the question is why are Arsenal not playing ball? We are still looking for the cheaper options that are unproven. This is probably the reason we are not getting Benzema. I suggest we put all our money up front this window and go in for the following players: Cavani, Illeremendi/Carvalho and why not try to hijack the Stones deal?

John Stones Chelsea

In my opinion the side that signs Stones will get best English defender for the next decade or so. This means that despite there being an over inflated transfer value on most players, Stones may actually be worth the money.

I believe he is already good enough to get a place in Arsenal, Chelsea or Man Utd’s first XI. With Koscielny having a on going injury problem and Mertesacker getting older we probably need another quality CB. I think Gabriel has everything to quality, whilst Callum Chambers needs game time to develop into a good CB.

It seems that Stones will end up at Chelsea, seeing as they have chased him all summer and he now has submitted a transfer request. This does not stop us from putting in a bid for the player.

If we did put any bid together, Everton may be more willing to except a bid from any other club apart from Chelsea who have publicly chased their man. As part of the bid I would also loan them Callum Chambers. He could really benefit by first team football at Everton who do not have many other CB’s. That is a win win situation for all. Chambers gets first team football, Stones gets his wish to play in the Champions League, Everton get good money and a potentially quality replacement and Arsenal get a top CB.

What is the worst that can happen? We may miss out on the player but may force Chelsea to pay even more for him. Saying all this I know we will not go in for Stones and will miss out on yet another quality English player.

Do you think Arsenal should sign another CB?

What Are Your Feelings On Cesc?

Former Arsenal Captain Cesc Fabregas

Sunday sees the return of an old fans favourite to the Emirates stadium. The only issue is that he is no longer a favourite for most of the regulars at Arsenal. I will attempt to put forward an argument as to why I still respect Fabregas and the difference between him, Cole and Van Persie.

I do understand the why the majority of Gooners hate the guy. He did after all break the unwritten rule that says that if you call yourself a fan of Arsenal you never sign for Spurs, Chelsea or Man Utd. I however do not blame him for signing for Chelsea, he clearly didn’t have much choice.

We did not want him, he could not sign for Real Madrid for obvious reasons, Athletico and Dortmund were not really options either due to wage demands. Bayern Munich did not want him as they already have a great midfield, which included Thiago, Gotze and Alonso. He could have stayed at Barcelona where the manager made him a scapegoat for a poor last season and told him that he would not play at all.

PSG would have been a bit of a step down for him even though they would have paid his wages, same for any of the Italian clubs. This probably only left 3 realistic clubs, for him to join. We would have hated it whichever of the three clubs he joined (Chelsea, Man City or Man Utd). Man City at the time were under problems with FFP and Man Utd were out of Europe with a new manager. So Chelsea was the only club of his level that wanted him and were willing to pay him what he deserves.

If you want anyone to blame for him joining Chelsea it would probably be Gazidas or Wenger for not shipping out Arteta or Diaby to make room for him.

If you see the signing of Fabregas it was pretty low key. It was clear from everything that he said that he would rather have come home to Arsenal. It was clear up until his transfer to Chelsea became imminent that he actually was an Arsenal fan as well as Barcelona. Take a look back at his Instagram and Twitter posts to see what I mean.

He did not look happy upon signing for Chelsea, not like how happy he was every time he put an Arsenal shirt on. I think he had his best times off the pitch at Arsenal and he knows it.

People may question how he left to go back to Barcelona, the real fact is that nobody knows that he threatened to go on strike. I do not think it would have been to that extent at all. Yes Barcelona used all the underhand tactics to take him from us, I feel that anything he did was due to direct pressure from them. We should have fought harder to keep his mind with us, also reported them back then for tapping up.

The real reason he left was because his boy hood club told him that if he didn’t sign for them that summer they would not bother with him again. That is hard for any player to hear, especially when he was playing a side that constantly sold the best players and replaced them with kids. I do not blame him for wanting to leave at the time.

Barcelona used him! They took the best young midfielder in European football and put him on the bench. They told him he would replace Xavi one day, instead they made him the player to hate. This experience would have hurt Fabregas as much as Wenger telling him that he did not want him.

This is on a par with your family telling you that they don’t want you around at any cost and then your father telling you his new kids are more loved than you are. Not only that signing for Mourinho is like going to the guy that your mum had the affair with. It must have hurt Fabregas so much that he went to play for a guy that he previously had said he did not like.

Lets not forget that he himself has never once said a negative word about Wenger, Arsenal or gone directly to a rival. That is why he is different for me compared to RVP or Ashley Cole. For all these reasons I will not be booing Fabregas, plus booing him will probably make him play better.

The guy has been punished enough with the two teams he loves rejecting him. He is now trying to make a winning career at a club, it is about trophies, all feelings seem to have left him. He not only doesn’t look the same (short, shaved hair does not suit him) but it is clear that his passion that he had when he was with us is the same.  I will dislike the fact that he plays for them, but not hate the guy like most Gooners.

Let me know what you think below:

How much is Pogba worth?

Paul Pogba Price

When considering the player that most of the top Premier League sides need a combative box to box midfielder is probably high on list for all the sides. Another side who have been linked with the young French midfielder is PSG. They like the top Premier League sides have a need for an all action central midfielder. All of the mentioned clubs have money to spend because of rich owners or big TV deals (or both).

His price has increased so much over the last year or so for a few reasons. These being:

  • His age (22 years old)
  • He is already one of the best in his position in the world
  • The new Premier League TV deal
  • The need for top clubs to get a strong box to box midfielder
  • A good world cup

Why all the sides need him:

Manchester United let him leave at a young age, but they have shown an interest to resign him. I personally do not think he is one of those players to go back to a club he left in bad taste. They have lots of money to change his mind though (as long as the get Champions League). (Would he go back to Utd after they didn’t rate him to put him ahead of John O’shea?)

Chelsea have been linked with him and they could really strengthen with a player like him. Buying Pogba could be a masterstroke for them. Magic would hold the midfield, Pogba as the guy who links the defensive side and attacking side together. Freeing up Fabregas to do what he does best as a number 10. The only issue is if they would rather spend the big money on a striker and another centre back (they are good with financial fair play).

Man City and Liverpool would want the player to replace inspirational figures in Yaya Toure and Gerrad who are both coming to the end of their superpowers. The issue here for City is financial fair play, while Liverpool may not qualify for the Champions League.

PSG have the money to buy who they want and they want to get to the next level. A player of Paul Pogba’s calibre is what they are after. It also helps that he is French and young. Their only issue is financial fair play, a big signing without selling half their side could see huge penalties for them in Europe.

Then we have Arsenal (my side). Now listen to the reasoning before judging me. Here are my reasons for why we should go for him:

  • Arsene Wenger is a known fan and tried to sign him at 18
  • We have no box to box midfielder like him
  • This can free up Wilshere or Ramsay to play in an advanced role
  • Cazorla wanted out last summer and may decide he wants one last crack in Spain
  • Rosicky and Arteta are ageing – Both may go into coaching or leave this summer
  • Diaby will not be with next season as his contract ends (Thank GOD)
  • If all the above players were to go we would only have Coqulen, Ramsay, Wilshere and Ozil as midfielders
  • Ozil normally plays on the wing if Ramsay or Wilshere play
  • Wilshere or Ramsay are always injured ruining our season
  • The stadium is fully paid off so we can afford to spend big like rivals now
  • The defence has been strengthened in January so all thats left is a box to box midfielder and backup striker
  • Pogba is young and French
  • Wenger will only have 2 years left to make another impact on the league or win that 1st Champions League – He must know what we need by now

I am not saying that he would want to come to us, but for the reasons mentioned I would love to see a serious effort made to lure him. He is the marquee player that we need. I would be willing to spend up to £55mil on him and less if there was to be a player exchange.
